Drowning Statistics Every Parent Should Know in Fruit Cove, FL
We believe that being informed is the first step toward creating a safer home environment. Here are the facts that drive our team to work so hard for the families in our area:
- Drowning is almost 50% more likely than a motor vehicle accident to be the cause of the death of a child aged 1-4.
- 70% of toddler drownings happen when the child isn’t expected to be in the water (non-swim time).
- Most drownings happen in home swimming pools among children ages 1–4.A young child can drown easily in as little as 1-2 inches of water within seconds.
- Over 40% of drownings among children 5-14 occur in natural water, and over 35% occur in swimming pools.
- 48 Percent of all drowning deaths occur in June, July, and August.
We share these numbers not to create fear, but to emphasize why we are so passionate about what we do. When we understand the risks, we can take the right actions to eliminate them.
Why We Need to Protect Children in Fruit Cove, FL with a Pool Fence
Florida is a paradise for water lovers, but it also carries a sobering reality for parents of young children. Our state leads the nation in child drowning deaths for the under five age group, and this is a statistic we are determined to change in our community. In St. Johns County, we are surrounded by beauty, from the river to the ocean, but the most significant risk to a child is often the water right in their own backyard. With the population of Fruit Cove growing and more families moving into homes with existing pools, the need for a professional pool safety fence in Fruit Cove, FL, has never been more urgent. We aren't just selling a product; we are advocating for a lifestyle that prioritizes the lives of our youngest residents.
In our area, many homes feature "open-concept" outdoor living spaces where the pool is the centerpiece. While these are stunning for entertaining, safety should be priority.
In Fruit Cove, Florida, there are 35,609 residents, and 12,489 housing units. Florida has 1,590,000 residential swimming pools. When you consider the number of pools combined with the fact that a child can lose consciousness in as little as a few seconds underwater, the importance of a physical barrier becomes clear. We are here to provide that barrier so that the results you experience are joyful memories and long afternoons of play, rather than a tragedy that could have been prevented.
Most people do not realize that many toddler drownings occur during a time when the family did not even think the child was near the pool. A sliding glass door that wasn't fully latched or a doggy door can provide a direct path to the water in seconds. We focus on isolation fencing because it adds a dedicated layer that can help restrict a young child’s access to the pool after stepping outside. We want to help you create a "safe zone" in your yard where kids can run and play freely without the water being an immediate threat.
Life Saver vs. a ‘Fence Around a Pool’
There is a major distinction between a fence that just happens to be near a pool and a Life Saver Pool Fence. Many people assume that a standard iron fence or a wooden picket fence is "good enough" for safety. We want to be honest with you: those fences were often designed for aesthetics or property boundaries, not for the specific purpose of child drowning prevention. A Life Saver fence is a purpose-built safety device. Its only job is to save lives.
Standard fences like chain link or wrought iron often have gaps that a small child can squeeze through or horizontal bars that act like a ladder. If a child can get a toe-hold, they can get over a standard fence in a matter of seconds. We use a specialized mesh that is virtually impossible for little fingers and toes to grip. There are no "steps" for them to use. Furthermore, many general purpose fences are permanent and bulky. Our pool fencing system can be removed by an adult in minutes, providing flexibility while maintaining proper tension and strength when it is installed. We are not just putting up a barrier; we are installing a system that has been refined over decades specifically to defeat the curiosity and persistence of a toddler. When you compare the Life Saver mesh pool fence in Fruit Cove, FL to a generic fence, you are comparing a life-saving tool to a decoration.
The 7 Layers of Protection
We always tell our neighbors that while a fence is a massive part of the solution, the best results come from a comprehensive safety strategy. We recommend using several layers of protection to ensure your pool area is as secure as possible. Here is how you can start:
- Install pool alarms and door locks on any doors leading to the backyard.
- Have a mesh safety fence installed that surrounds your entire pool.
- Provide your children with early infant swim instruction.
- Supervise children at all times and always have a designated water watcher on “duty”.
- Make the pool the first place you check if children are missing.
- Require that all caretakers know how to perform CPR.
- Educate family members, caretakers, and babysitters on pool safety.
By implementing these 7 Layers of Protection, you are creating a redundant system. If one layer is ever bypassed or forgotten, the other layers are there to provide the protection your child needs. We want to help you set up these layers so you can live with confidence.

Residential Pool Barrier Requirements in Fruit Cove, FL
As a resident of Fruit Cove, FL, it’s important to be aware of the state’s pool safety regulations. The State of Florida has several pool safety requirements as documented in Florida's statute Chapter 515, Section 29. One of the layers of protection mandated by the law is a 48 inch tall pool safety fence that isolates the home from the pool [source]. Fruit Cove, FL, follows the Florida Building Code.
Following these guidelines provides Florida pool owners with the confidence that they’ve created a safer environment for their young children to enjoy the pool.
Note: While Florida adopts the ISPSC, local jurisdictions (like Fruit Cove) may have amendments to these codes. It’s always best to check with the local Building Department or local permitting office for the most up-to-date and specific requirements. Building codes are also updated periodically. Ensure you are referencing the most current version adopted by Fruit Cove).
Mesh Pet Fence – Protect Your Pets
We love our pets, so let's protect them too. Many of our clients in Fruit Cove are just as concerned about their senior dogs or adventurous puppies as they are about their children. We have seen far too many stories of pets accidentally falling into a pool and being unable to find their way out. A mesh pet fence is a practical way to help keep your four-legged family members away from the water. Unlike some traditional fences that can hurt a pet's paws, our mesh is soft but incredibly strong.
Older dogs, in particular, can suffer from failing eyesight or disorientation, making the pool a major hazard. Our mesh is durable and can withstand the scratching or leaning of a dog. It creates a clear boundary that pets quickly learn to respect. Whether you are trying to keep a curious Lab out of the water or ensuring a tiny terrier doesn't slip through a gap, a pet-specific barrier provides that extra layer of security. We treat our pets like family because they are family, and they deserve a safe environment where they can roam the yard without the risk of an accidental drowning.
Pool Gates in Fruit Cove, FL
A pool fence is only as good as its weakest point, and that is usually the entrance. That is why we always emphasize the importance of a high-quality gate. In Fruit Cove, FL, we install self-closing and self-latching gates that are the gold standard for safety. You never have to worry if you remembered to click the latch behind you; our gates do the work for you using gravity and high-tension springs to ensure they close and lock every single time.
We offer both arched and flat-top options to match the look of your home, but the real magic is in the security. Our gates are lockable with a key, adding an extra level of "security" for when you are away or during the winter months. These gates are designed to be climb-resistant, meaning there are no footholds for a child to use to pull themselves up. While some people think a gate is an optional add-on, we want you to perceive it as an essential part of your mesh pool fence in Fruit Cove, FL. A fence without a reliable gate is an incomplete system. Our double-pole truss system ensures that the gate stays aligned and functional, even with the high usage of a busy Florida household.
